in the morning

"Outside it was a lovely, cool, sub-tropical winter day and the palm branches were sawing in the light north wind. Some winter people rode by the house on bicycles. They were laughing. In the big yard of the house across the street a peacock squawked. Through the window you could see the sea looking hard and new and blue in the winter light. A large white yacht was coming into the harbor and seven miles out on the horizon you could see a tanker, small and neat in profile against the blue sea, hugging the reef as she made to the westward to keep from wasting fuel against the stream."

i had a dream

and you were in it.

we were on vacation with our families together
somewhere hot during the summer.

but we weren't talking.
well, you weren't talking to me.
you had the new girlfriend.
and you were paying attention only to her.

and it was very awkward.
because you wouldn't address me at all.
i finally met your mom on the trip. she was sweet.
and her name was ogilvy. that was weird.

all i remember was that it was so hard
being on that vacation and being ignored by you...

cuz you said we would be friends forever.

and then the trip was over and everybody was leaving
and saying goodbye. and you still didn't say anything to me.

and then i woke up shaking in bed and realized

it was just a dream.
it was just a dream.
it was just a dream nicole.

calm down...

upstairs at the beresford

i was invited to the beresford launch of "upstairs at the beresford."

the whole idea was to bring a live music venue
and mix it with a new york style club atmosphere.

they got inspiration from joe's pub in new york.
and went all 70's with old pics on the wall
of the hemmes family who owns
the merivale company.

it was great fun!
free drinks and live music.
put on just for the merivale staff.
what more could you ask for?

i can't wait to start working at this venue!

it's gonna be off the heezy fo cheezy momma!

l'air du desert marocain

"l'air du desert marocain"
by tauer

-incense oriental.

"The sweet smell of amber, the foundation of the classic perfume oriental, has long been weighed down with vanilla and sandalwood, decorated with mulling spices, bolstered with musk, made come-hither, ready for its close-up, and we are quite used to it - but this is not amber's first life. Perfume meant first "through smoke," named for fragrant materials burned to clean the air and therefore the spirit. One hale breath of Desert's vast spaces clears the head of all the world's nonsense. There is something about the ancient smell of these resins (styrax, frankincense) that on first inhalation strikes [me] as holy, beautiful, purifying, lit without shadow from all sides. Even without the fragrance's name to prompt me, I would still feel the same peace when smelling it that i've felt only once before, when driving across the southwestern desert one morning: all quiet, no human habitation for miles, the upturned bowl of the heavens infinitely high above, and the sage and occasional quail clutching close to the dun earth. Each solitary object stood supersaturated with itself, full to the brim, sure to spill over if subjected to the slightest nudge. Wear this fragrance and feel the cloudless sky rush far away above you."

So you're wishing that you never did
All the embarrassing things you've done.
And you're wishing you could set it right.
And you're wishing you could stay the night.

But then I go again, wishing never solved a problem.
If you wanna get it big time, go ahead and get it get it big time.

So I think I can solve all my problems by myself.
Nevermind, nevermind, nevermind, nevermind.
And you think you can solve all your problems by yourself.
Nevermind, nevermind, nevermind, nevermind.

Oh, give it, give it, give it, give it, give it.
Until you just can't give no more.
Oh, give it, give it, give it, give it, give it.
Until you just can't give no more.
