i receive emails from Guatemala missionaries whom i was blessed to work with back in grade 10. (sooo long ago!) my church and i went for 2 weeks and helped build a school literally from our hands. we were on our hands and knees and digging and making mortar and stacking the bricks and painting. we weren't able to finish by the end of our trip, but we were able to create a base and start the perimeter of the school.
it was my first missions trip and ever since then many other trips have followed to New Orleans (hurricane katrina), Creation festival (washington), and Philippines (friends missionaries).
Guatemala was so rewarding. They were such a blessing to me. (and their coffee is amazing!) I find that whenever i go to third world countries, they are always so giving and loving. it astonishes me. i think, where did they get all that love from? i guess when it comes down to the bare bones, all they need is family and love and God. that's what they base their lives on and they are fully satisfied. i'm constantly learning from it. being in bkk has reminded me of how much God has blessed me and my family. i'm so thankful.
anyway, back to the emails. i received their new year greeting email and want to share some inspiring and convicting quotes that they used:
"he is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." -Jim Elliot
"i have always believed that the Good Samaritan went across the road to the wounded man just because he wanted to." -Wilfred Thomason Grenfell
"God's part is to put forth power; our part is to put forth faith." -Andrew A. Bonar
"we who have Christ's eternal life need to throw away our own lives." -George Verwer
maybe they'll convict you too?
